This Saturday was another fun day filled with music, crafts and even an election! In the third and fourth grade room, every child had the chance of a lifetime: to become president for the day. Students learned about the electoral process, filled out their ballots, and then casted their votes for class president to get a glimpse at the details of the process.
The first and second graders learned how to play the flauta dulce, the recorder. This wooden flute is known for its unique, beautiful sound. By the end of the day, the students were able to play the song “Dos por Diez” and understand basic music-reading skills. Each student has their own recorder that they can take home and practice with each week. We’re really excited about all the possibilities the instruments are going to open up for our students.
This week, the middle schoolers learned how to make arepas! Beatriz Cardenas, a very active ISLA parent, walked students through the process of making Clombian arepas. They were absolutely delicious.
In honor of the upcoming thanksgiving holiday, students in every class gave thanks. All of the children wrote thank-you notes and drew pictures for ISLA donors.
